Instagram 2/20/14

INSTAGRAM

Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digitalfilters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.[7] A distinctive feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images, in contrast to the 16:9 aspect ratio now typically used by mobile device cameras. Users are also able to record and share short videos lasting for up to 15 seconds.[8]
Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010. The service rapidly gained popularity, with over 100 million active users as of April 2012.[9][10] Instagram is distributed through the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Windows Phone Store.[11] Support was originally available for only the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch; in April 2012, support was added for Android camera phones. Third-party Instagram apps are available for Blackberry 10 and Nokia-Symbian Devices.[12][13] On October 22, 2013, during the Nokia World at Abu Dhabi, UAE, Kevin Systrom has confirmed that official Instagram app for Windows Phone will be available in the coming weeks.[14] On November 21, 2013, the official Instagram Beta for Windows Phone has been released to Windows Phone 8 to allow Windows Phone user to get faster access to Instagram services although the app is still under development with lack of video recording and capture image through app.[15][16] The service was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock.[17] In 2013, Instagram grew by 23%, while Facebook, as the mother company, only grew by 3%.[18]

olympics 2014 figure skating

olympics 2014 figure skating

Meryl Davis & Charlie White

Figure skating is a sport and activity in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908.The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating and four skating. In senior-level competition, skaters generally perform two programs (short and long) which, depending on the discipline, may include spins, jumps, moves in the field, lifts, throw jumps, death spirals, and other elements or moves.

The blade has a groove on the bottom creating two
distinct edges—inside and outside. In figure skating,
the skater should skate on one edge of the blade and not on both at the same time, which is referred to as a flat edge. Skates used in single and pair skating have a set of large, jagged teeth called toe picks on the front of the blade. Ice dancing blades are an inch shorter in the rear and have smaller toe picks.

Figure skaters compete at various levels from beginner up to the Olympic level (senior) at local, national, and international competitions. TheInternational Skating Union (ISU) regulates international figure skating judging and competitions. These include the Winter Olympic Games, theWorld Championships, the World Junior Championships, the European Championships, the Four Continents Championships, and the Grand Prix series (senior and junior).

The sport is also associated with show business.
Major competitions generally conclude with exhibition
galas, in which the top skaters from each discipline
perform non-competitive programs. Many skaters, both
during and after their competitive careers, also skate
in ice shows which run during the competitive season
and the off-season.
